Putrakameshti Yagya is performed to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu for the birth of a child. The term ‘Putrakameshti’ means ‘the desire for a son’ in Sanskrit, and the yajna is performed with the intention of having a child, who can carry forward the family lineage and perform the last rites for the parents.

The yagya is an elaborate ritual, which involves making offerings while chanting mantras from the Vedas. The ceremony is performed by a group of priests, who are well-versed in the Vedic scriptures and are experts in performing yagya.

The Putrakameshti Yagya was performed by several ancient kings, including King Dasharatha, the father of Lord Rama. According to the Ramayana, Dasharatha performed the Yagya to obtain children, and as a result, he was blessed with four sons, Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna.

The Putrakameshti Yagya grants blessings and removes the obstacles in the path of conceiving a child.

Lord Vishnu blessing – A couple seeks blessings from Lord Vishnu by performing Putrakamesthi Yagya. His blessings come in the form of a healthy child for the couple.

Activation of Anahatha Chakra – The recitation of mantras during the ceremony activates the Anahatha chakra. Anahatha Chakra is associated with love and Lord Vishnu resides here. The activation of this chakra fosters a strong bond between the couple and eliminates stress, which can stimulate the process of childbirth.

Healthy and blessed child – it also instils positive qualities and success in the child to be born. Additionally, this yagna removes obstacles related to childbirth, such as infertility, and frees the couple from any ill effects caused by unfavourable planetary positions in the birth chart.
