Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is a powerful and ancient Mantra that is recited to Lord Shiva (Rudra) to seek protection, health, and long life. The mantra is also known as the Tryambakam Mantra and is as follows:ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat Translation: We worship the three-eyed one (Lord Shiva) who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is featured in the composite hymn of Rigveda (7.59.12), credited to Vasiṣṭha Maitrāvaruṇi. The final four verses of the hymn, containing the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, are believed to be added later and refer to the Sākamedha, which is the final ritual of the four-month cycle.
