Vayu in our body

In Ayurveda, Vayu refers to the principle of movement and is one of the three doshas or biological humours. Vayu is responsible for all forms of movement in the body, including circulation, respiration, and nerve impulses. There are five types of Vayu in the body:

Prana Vayu: It is responsible for the inhalation of air and oxygenation of the blood, as well as the movement of the chest and diaphragm during breathing.

Apana Vayu: It is responsible for the elimination of waste materials from the body, including urine, faeces, and menstrual blood.

Samana Vayu: It is responsible for the digestion and assimilation of food, as well as the distribution of nutrients throughout the body.

Udana Vayu: It is responsible for speech, thought, and the movement of the diaphragm during singing.

Vyana Vayu: It is responsible for the circulation of blood and nutrients throughout the body, as well as the movement of muscles and joints.

According to Ayurveda, imbalances in any of these Vayus can lead to physical and mental health problems. Therefore, Ayurvedic treatments aim to balance the Vayus through various practices such as diet, exercise, massage, and herbal remedies.
